Stellaris Console Dev Diary #20 - Relics

Hello again, Console Edition Fans!

AC here, today I’m going to be talking about another added feature in the next free update for Stellaris: Console Edition. Relics and dig sites!

Relics
Relics are a really cool new feature to Stellaris. Relics are very powerful artifacts and trophies that you can collect. Every relic has a passive and an activation effect. Also, relics have a shared cooldown, so you will be forced to choose which relic you want to activate.

While more relics could potentially be added in a later expansion, there will be a few relics available to be found when the next free update comes out. These relics will be mainly found by doing things like defeating a Crisis, or the Great Khan (requires Apocalypse), but there may also be others that can be found in the galaxy, or won via games of chance, or by defeating space monsters. Some of these will be unlocked via expansions that you already own, and some (specifically the crisis Relics) will be included in the base game.

As a rule, relics require influence as their activation cost, but occasionally different resources are required. Relics cannot normally be taken from other empires, the only exception to this is the Galatron (requires MegaCorp), which does have a “Steal Relic” war goal attached to it.

Archaeology Sites

Archaeology Sites are another new feature added to Stellaris: Console Edition with the next update, again, there may be more Archaeology Sites added in a future expansion, however, there will be at least one or two that you can find as you’re exploring the galaxy after the next free update.

4 - dig site discovered.png

Archaeology sites that are within your borders can be excavated by a Scientist, and will consist of several different chapters. A site can have 1-6 chapters, in addition to an introduction/prologue. Each chapter will have its own narrative and reward, and has to be unlocked before it becomes visible.

A chapter will be unlocked whenever the Scientist excavating the site gets a successful roll at the end of an Excavation Phase. As the Scientist goes through the chapters, the game will roll a dice and add modifiers to the result. The final result will then either do nothing, add clues, or make a breakthrough to the next chapter. Most chapter endings will include some sort of reward.

At the end of each Excavation Phase, it is also possible that the Scientist triggers a random event, which will inject some unpredictability and create opportunities for emergent storytelling.

That’s it for this week, join us again next week when we will discuss planetary designations and the changes to the way the Precursor event chains spawn.

consoles are catching up fast...
the problem is going to be the jump from 2.2.7 (the pc patch we are on) or whatever this update will put us onto patch wise [2.3 maybe?], to...as a safe assumption since last i knew they wanted to get the game caught up to pc, 2.8

there were a lot of changes in the interim

and it isn't like they can copy/pasta what was done on pc and apply it to console; then make the changes [especially since Paradox isn't the one doing the console port]

Does sound there is going to be a major jump when the patch comes out. Looking forward to the relic system see what they can do. Hope they change it so you can go to war over all the artifacts tc
