Hello again one last time before Christmas!

We have setup another opt-in open beta branch for Barbarossa, again named open_beta. If the branch does not appear, restarting Steam should fix it.
This is once more meant for the brave souls who want to try out the upcoming fixes & balance changes early.
Contrary to normal releases this branch is a work-in-progress that has yet to go through our full release QA process, so while we try to keep relatively stable you may experience new issues or crashes.

This branch contains some of the work-in-progress for the 1.11.5 Barbarossa patch, scheduled to release some time early 2022.

Feel free to leave your feedback in this thread or in the bug report forum as usual, especially if you encounter new issues not present in 1.11.4, or if something marked as fixed in the below changelog still occurs for you.

- When loading a save from a lost ironman game, observer mode is loaded and ironman flag should be turned off.

- Fix positioning of the Expand Polish Intelligence branch when Man the Guns is not active. Without MtG the focus Expand Polish Intelligence will no longer require the player to complete the (MtG DLC-locked) parent focus Prepare for the Inevitable.

- Fixed George VI national spirit showing an advisor portrait instead of the regular national spirit portrait.

- Made it less likely that The Soviet Union partitions Poland with Lithuania if Lithuania is AI, and even less likely if Poland is controlled by the player.
- Spanish generals should again be able to properly pick a side when the Civil War starts
- Fixed exploit which allowed circumvention of the building removal cooldown effective while at war.
- Adapt assignable trait skilled_staffer so field marshals can also gain xp in that trait.

- Capital supply connection graph will now prioritize shorter sea routes

- Toggling naval region access settings should no longer make captains panic when they reach a blocked zone and get stuck in place
- Rumors of TODOs in Soviet Stalinist missions flavor texts turned out to be counter-revolutionary propaganda. There never was any TODOs.

Many thanks Mat and to everyone that's worked on it, and I hope you and the rest of the team, if you're not on holidays now, will be very soon :) I'll give this a bash early in the New Year (I'll be away from my PC for a week or so). Have a great break and a very Happy Holidays :)


The things below are for next year, if they are things that rate on your priority list at all.

You may well already have them "on the books" (or they may be WAD - but if they are, there's at least room to improve the UI to tell players what's going on), but in my recent modding (these repro in vanilla - they're just things that I didn't notice until now - I tend to look a bit closer at the systems modding than playing) I tripped over a couple of bugs that could be quite problematic in particular situations (playing a minor, or when tracing supply a long distance over terrain with bad weather - the issue is such that at the moment, I've disabled weather supply_factor effects in my mod, and I'm using weather supply consumption hikes instead to try and get weather supply effects without the bug).



There was also this: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...-should-be-fully-in-supply-but-arent.1503273/ Whether it's WAD or not, at the very least there's room for the UI to better explain what's going on, and something may be broken (but at this stage my best guess is that it's a UI issue in relation to the impact of sunk convoys not being reflected in the supply info shown in-game for units or provinces - but I could be way off).

These last three are less related to NSB/Barbarossa, but at least with the first, I'm not sure it was always like this - I can't recall having to manually move my ships around like this before when they've got 'stuck' on range barriers when moving to their patrol areas - but I also don't play the USA a heap, at least in historical mode, so I may have just missed it. The second is something that's been in place since the launch of MtG, but is a significant issue. The third is a new issue for 1.11.4 I think, and doesn't seem to be addressed in the patch notes (but is also not a critical thing - although it's a bit fiddly, and it would be a shame to see this level of bug 'baked in' to the game).

Hi I just wanted to check but was the change of Army Morale chiefs of army (e.g. Tojo, MacArthur, etc.) to provide a 'non-combat out of supply penalty' bonus intended?
Before 'No step back' they provided recovery rate which seemed like a much more useful bonus and since the file still refers to that, I thought the new change may be an error or an oversight since it does seem at lot more situational and not fitting as well with the morale theme.

When at war the Soviet Union can have a terrain modifier applied to the states around Moscow.
The modifier gives -100% factories in state.

There is no way to remove it after war. So Monarchist Russia basically loses all the factories in the Moscow area.

Any word on fixing the free french and Vichy focus trees not understanding who their leader is? I wanted to do a Vichy run but it is broken.

Also is there a reason air supply cannot give fuel to tanks, it is weird tanks can be airdropped but not gas cans.

I hope a fellow user who experience the "Mandate of Heaven CTD" bug has already make a bug complaint.

Welp, for myself, it's just a bunch of suggestions anyway.
 
Will blocked supply convoys issue be addressed as well?

As a Germany I have access to Mediterranean sea with lvl 8 port and lvl 5 railway (Veneto) and my supplies to North Africa are not getting through, due to Gibraltar (supplies coming from Rostock port)

Worth noting perhaps that Blitzkrieg Theorist used to provide a doctrine-agnostic bonus (i.e. equivalent to Military Theorist plus the armor speed bonus). While the name certainly implies Mobile Warfare, all previous balancing (e.g. the fact that both Guderian and von Manstein are available theorists for Germany) has been done within that paradigm.

As USA, when I want to lend lease to the USSR, I first have to give them convoys. Because they don't have enough. Also it's weird that it takes 30 days and some of their convoys to do so.

Anything on Turkey still being able to make a faction while being a puppet? That could be solved I think by given a bypass to any faction focus if Turkey is puppeted. (The same should be applied to any inviting countries to faction focuses too, so Turkey can't do any faction nonsense)

Also due to the Petra Proposal Turkey can steal Sinai even if Egypt is fully independent, there should be an option to refuse it.

Also i have noticed two bugs with the new AI focus guiding mechanic in ahistorical.

Edward VIII is not forced to marry Wallis Simpson in case the UK is following the monarchist plan so usually it gets locked out of the political tree.

Also China should respond to a Japanese civil war by abandoning the anti-Japanese paths like the Chinese United Front and rather go for a Chinese unification and emerge as a major power themselves.
