Hi all, Jamor here with some good news.
As you know, Paradox has been making our games available on more and more platforms. One can play Imperator on Paradoxplaza, Steam, GoG, and the MS Store. Although it's great that we can reach more players, and people can enjoy the game on the platform of their choice, this does present us a bit of a challenge, with the division of our multiplayer community across platform lines.
We have a long-term goal to address this by building a new multiplayer layer, uniting all players worldwide in a single unified MP environment where everyone can play with everyone, regardless of where they bought the game. Obviously deploying a new MP system is something we want to handle carefully, and in close cooperation with our player community to ensure the best possible experience for you.
As such, we are rolling out an experimental crossplay beta on the imperator_test branch on Steam.
This opt-in beta branch is functionally identical to the current live 1.3.2 version, except it uses our new experimental crossplay MP instead of the default Steam multiplayer.
What's in it for me, you ask?
The most direct benefit is that if you have friends who own Imperator on a non-Steam platform and you are on Steam, with this beta you will be able to play with them. Also, in future when we do experimental gameplay changes that want field testing before going fully live, we will include them in this imperator_test branch, giving our most dedicated players first access. It will be a rolling beta. We'll update it to always be either ahead of or in parity with the official live version.
It's easy, it's free, and it will help us generate useful data to improve the MP system that in future, everyone will use. We all win.
Please note that imperator_test is an opt-in beta. You have to choose to activate it. To do so, right click on Imperator in your Steam library -> select betas tab -> select imperator_test.
Please give it a try, and let us know how it goes for you.
