You have deduced well what is happening. The game doesn't always handle the succession of artifacts, especially when there is no direct heir. Some items may disappear.
Of course, I can't let magical artifacts be lost for silly reasons. If the game detects that there are less than 8 magic artifacts at the beginning of the year, it will generate the missing one. Technically it is a copy, but of course we consider the lost artifact to have been found by someone else. Unfortunately, in that case the claim is lost.

Lilith is a demon and a woman. I guess that explains everything :D I hope Merlin comforted you xd
I took Lilith as a lover, she went and killed whomever she wanted, she kept asking for money and other favors, in the end she just used me and left. WHY, we had a good thing going on
I ended up marring Merlin instead, he's been in my court for 80 years.
I don't actually care that much about it, it is nice, but I have other options for arcane magic, and since artifacts can cease to exist upon succession, I am mostly curious how that works with these.
My guess would be maybe that if selected, that artifact disappears, but a copy randomly appears in the possession of some other character (and since it is a copy and not technically the same one as far as code is concerned, that is why it vanished from my claims), but it is also possible that they might just genuinely cease to exist, or that something else happened.

Baba Yaga must be a really cool grandma ;]
I remember that I once married her, later she became my nemesis. And then this event with suspected infidelity: 'Do you have another, Baba Yaga?' :D
Yes, artifacts are just one way to unlock magic. Although it's often simpler to get them than source trait - well, and artifacts have their benefits too ;p
You can use magic without an artifact, there is an event for it. I'm pretty sure there is also a congenital trait that lets you do the same.So even without an artifact you can get clapped.
Secret tip: Baba Yaga spawns with 3 daughters, really High quality Wives
Weird, it sounds like something worth looking into. Although with ancient archmages anything is possible, maybe he found a way to use an artifact he doesn't have :D Anyway, thanks for the observation.
I bought an artifact claim on the singularity mark II, challenged him to a duel and won. So, having both singularities in my pocket, I used it against him...but he retaliated anyway, with his non-existent artifact. Lol.
So much new content that's so much fun though! Keep up the great work!
Hi :) You are quite right, the familiars system is quite poor and sometimes too random - although on the one hand I like that one of the elements of the witchery tree is completely random, I understand that the result does not always have to match the player's expectations.
I've considered reworking familiars several times, but never had a good idea for it (a good idea is also one that doesn't require a huge amount of work, and treating each type of familiars completely separately would involve a lot of effort).
Looking at it realistically, it might be possible to implement at least the possibility of swapping a familiar for another. It would also be nice to add at least some depth to it, maybe some additional event or application for familiars.
Thanks for bringing up the topic ;)
